This place in Kalimantan, Indonesia. Actually, there is a nation that is Dayak, especially
in the seven ethnic groups. Because they live in special buildings - longhouses, members
are very close. The long house is different from our usual house. There is a big family
living inside. Then live together and carry out religious ceremonies and celebrations inside.
So established a close relationship between people.

The building materials used in the long house are locally sourced. However,
it is also very respectful for the use of building materials such as these trees.
Establishing a coexistence and co-prosperity relationship with nature, as for modern
houses, there are thick walls, deep-locked gates, and deliberately planned residential
areas. And let each other become more and more strange. But, the long house is a
symbol of social and unity, also built by everyone.

At the end of the speech, I watched a film about the Kalimantan Longhouse. In the
longhouse, everyone will also make handicrafts, such as bamboo baskets or paintings.
Help each other, quite harmonious. Living in the same big space, showing a harmonious
look.

But with the evolution of the times, the number of longhouses is getting smaller and
smaller. Bringing relative influence to traditional culture, the people must have other
ideas for the inhabitants. ‘’Whether to continue the challenge of colonizing?’’

Longhouse is where they build their feelings and unite. Perhaps it will eventually
enter history, but more importantly, continue their original culture and preserve
cultural heritage.

As a native of Taiwan, and I am a Paiwan student. The view on the longhouse culture
of Kalimantan in Indonesia is more about the concern about preservation. Just like the
culture of our Paiwan people. In Taiwan, our culture is relatively weak. In recent years,
people have gradually discovered that culture is slowly declining, and began to act on
preservation and continuation. But I think the aborigines in real life are actually
far-reachingly influenced by society, adding a lot of difficulties in the preservation of
culture.

However, culture is not a matter for one person, nor is it a person can achieve it. It is
up to everyone to work together to maintain. Like the longhouse culture, Even if the
number of longhouses in the future will not increase, future generations may not live
in longhouses. But I think it is most important to teach future generations about the
life and culture of their own people, at least not to forget that this is the memory of all
our ethnic groups.
